Evening

There is no deity except Allah alone, without partner. His is the dominion and His is all praise, and He has power over all things.
It is equivalent to freeing ten slaves. One hundred good deeds are recorded for him, one hundred bad deeds are erased, and it protects him from Satan.

All praise is due to Allah, and may prayers and peace be upon the Messenger of Allah, his family, and his Companions.

Concerning the remembrance ‘There is no deity except Allah alone, without partner…’, it is established that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: ‘Whoever says in the morning: There is no deity except Allah alone, without partner; His is the dominion and His is all praise, and He has power over all things—will have the equivalent of freeing a slave from the descendants of Isma‘il. Ten good deeds will be recorded for him, ten bad deeds erased, and he will be raised ten ranks. He will be protected from Satan until evening. If he says it in the evening, he receives the same until morning.’ Abu Dawud narrated it, and Al-Albani graded it authentic.

This hadith does not specify a particular number of repetitions. However, encouragement is established to say this remembrance ten times immediately after Fajr and Maghrib, and also ten times after Fajr alone. It is also established that it may be said one hundred times daily without restricting it to a particular time.

In Al-Bukhari and Muslim, Abu Hurayrah narrated that the Prophet said: ‘Whoever says one hundred times in a day: There is no deity except Allah alone, without partner; His is the dominion and His is all praise, and He has power over all things—will have the equivalent of freeing ten slaves. One hundred good deeds will be recorded for him and one hundred bad deeds erased. It will protect him from Satan that day until evening. No one will bring anything better than what he has brought, except someone who does more.’

Another hadith states: ‘Whoever says, after praying the morning prayer, ten times: There is no deity except Allah alone, without partner; His is the dominion and His is all praise, and He has power over all things—Allah will record ten good deeds for him, erase ten bad deeds, raise him ten ranks, and grant him the equivalent of freeing two slaves from the descendants of Isma‘il. If he says it in the evening, he receives the same, and it will be a barrier against Satan until morning.’ Al-Khatib narrated it, and Al-Albani graded it authentic in As-Silsilah As-Sahihah.

Another narration states: ‘Whoever says ten times before turning away or unfolding his legs after Maghrib and the morning prayer: There is no deity except Allah alone, without partner; His is the dominion and His is all praise; He gives life and causes death, and He has power over all things—Allah will record ten good deeds for each repetition, erase ten bad deeds, and raise him ten ranks. It will protect him from every harm and from Satan, the accursed. No sin will overtake him except associating partners with Allah. He will be among the best in deeds, except for someone who surpasses him by saying something better.’ Ahmad narrated it. Al-Haythami and Al-Mundhiri said its narrators are those of the authentic collections except Shahr ibn Hawshab. Al-Albani graded it hasan through supporting reports.

Ibn As-Sunni, Al-Mundhiri, and Al-Haythami placed this report under saying the remembrance after prayer. The apparent meaning is that the reward is obtained by following any of the cited narrations. It is preferable to complete one hundred repetitions regularly, whether together or separately, preferably early in the day, while also keeping the ten repetitions after Fajr and Maghrib.

Commenting on the Prophet’s statement about saying this remembrance one hundred times daily, and on ‘Whoever says Glory and praise be to Allah one hundred times daily will have his sins erased even if they are like the foam of the sea,’ An-Nawawi said that the unrestricted wording indicates that the reward is obtained whether the hundred repetitions are consecutive or separated among different gatherings, or partly at the beginning and partly at the end of the day. However, saying them consecutively at the beginning of the day is preferable, so that they protect him throughout the day.
